I’m going to be the first to admit that I like to be liked.
I mean, who doesn’t?
We all want to be like and accepted and deep down, we all really care about what others say about us.
It’s just a universal human want to be accepted, whether it’s by a mom’s group, your co-workers or even family.
But honestly, it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
The only thing that matters is what you think of yourself because at the end of the day, you have to live with you and your actions.
Living your life constantly worrying about what other people will think or say about you is not a healthy way to life.
You’ll always be second-guessing the choices you make and might even make the wrong decisions because it will appease others. If you live life this way, you’re just a spectator that waits for others to take action before you. Basically, you’re nothing but a follower.
Stop giving a sh*t about what others say or think about you (or your parenting) and start living life on your own terms.
But I get it; it’s easier said than done.
So to help you care less, here are 5 tips on how to stop caring:
1. You won’t please everyone
It’s really difficult to try and live up to EVERYONE’s expectations of you. You’ll find that you can’t please everyone, so why even try? There will always be people that will judge you no matter how hard you try to please them. Nothing is going to happen if you stop caring. The only thing that will happen is that you’ll be happier and be ready to live life on your own terms. Start being true to yourself and standing up for what you believe in without caring about how it comes off to others.
2. Focus on what does matter
Instead of focusing on things that don’t matter – like what other people think – simply focus on what does matter. Your family is your life, so focus all your energy and efforts into them. When you shift your focus, you care less about your individual role as a person and more about the bigger picture, which is your family. Do what’s right for them and not others.
3. People really aren’t paying that much attention
Although you think others care about what you do or say, in reality, the majority of them aren’t really paying that much attention to you. They’re too busy worrying about themselves and their own lives. You’re probably just a passing thought and here you are caring about what they think. Save the headaches and drop it because they really don’t care about you.
4. You know what’s best
You’re living your life and no one else is. Sure, they might have opinions or ideas, but in the end only you know what’s best for you and your situation. You need to go and do you no matter what the world wants or expects from you.
5. Don’t overthink things
Overthinking things can make you think that you’re being judged when you’re really not. Learn to recognize the signs of your overthinking and instead replace them with positive thoughts.
